Artist statement

I grew up in a house where photographs hung from strings to dry, freshly developed from the darkroom. Before I understood what an image was, I learned that it could slowly appear, transform through light, and become a memory. Perhaps that is why my artistic practice is driven by a desire to reveal the connections that often remain unseen—between people, cultures, places and memories.

My perspective has been shaped by encounters between cultures. The diversity of landscapes, cultures, and ways of life I have experienced has transformed my relationship with colour. Rather than seeking what separates us, I am interested in discovering what connects us. When I arrive in a new place, I do not photograph immediately. I need to walk, listen, and observe before taking a photograph. This same rhythm guides my entire creative process. Research occupies an essential place in my practice. I gather images, archives, materials, and stories that gradually reveal unexpected connections.

I work in an interdisciplinary way, exploring the possibilities of painting, photography, and other media. Colour holds a central place in my practice: it is a language capable of creating connections between people, cultures, and histories. My work invites the viewer to discover those links that remain invisible at first glance. What emerges when we learn to look differently?
