Description
African Rhythm
This artwork was selected for the Biennal Ciutat Vella Oberta de València 2023 and was presented as part of a collective exhibition at the Centre Cultural Octubre.
In this piece, I explore rhythm, repetition and interruption through a visual language inspired by textile design. The abstract patterns and composition evoke the richness of African textile traditions, an influence that has become part of my work through my travels and encounters with different cultures.
The artwork combines textile-inspired motifs with the free and organic movement of liquid acrylic, creating a dialogue between structure and spontaneity, between tradition and contemporary expression.
This artwork is part of the Blijheid (*Alegría) collection
The collection Blijheid (Joy), was born from a desire to pay tribute to joy as a vital force, nourished by the vibrant colours of the Mediterranean and by the African traces woven into my journeys.
In Blijheid, painting becomes a language to celebrate the vitality of everyday life, the richness of cultural exchange and the freedom to create a territory of one’s own between vaderland and moederland: the land of origin and the land of belonging, roots and the present.
