MÉMOIRE

MÉMOIRE is an interdisciplinary art project that weaves together painting, textile and photography.

It emerges from the story of my grandmother —who used to sing flamenco on the buses of Liège— to explore the formation of identity through layers of cultural heritage.

MÉMOIRE is both intimate memory and a collective social and cultural construction that leads me towards my present self.

The project offers a contemporary reflection based on memories of the body, gesture and voice. It is a dialogue between the aesthetics of flamenco and its Arab and North African influences, and my own African and Mediterranean experiences.

I combine photography, painting, textile and symbolic actions to investigate how memory is transmitted through almost invisible traces and imperceptible gestures that emerge through the artistic gaze.

MÉMOIRE is also a personal inquiry: Who was my grandmother, and who am I as a granddaughter, daughter, mother and woman carrying the inheritance of her memory? She left no diaries; she left roots. My roots.

I conceive memory as a territory in constant construction, shaped both by vivid recollections and by lost fragments, silences and absences. Female heritage has shaped an essential part of my identity, and MÉMOIRE emerges from the need to understand it.

I embark on a creative search, a visual archaeology that explores my family legacy in order to interpret its traces and reconstruct a fragmented memory. In MÉMOIRE, photography, painting, textiles, embroidery and symbolic actions intertwine in cultural layers where the visible coexists with what remains hidden or barely perceptible.

Each artwork begins as a question and becomes my discovery.

MÉMOIRE is an artistic investigation into inherited female memory and the construction of identity across generations. Drawing from family archives, photographs, stories, places and fragmented memories, I explore what remains when words disappear: gestures, the body, the voice, silence and the traces of displacement.

Painting, photography and textile become tools for reconstructing an incomplete memory, where the intimate enters into dialogue with the collective. Between Liège and the Mediterranean, Andalusia and the Maghreb, MÉMOIRE proposes an affective cartography of migration, transmission and belonging.
